From microscale chips to space systems – spend your summer shaping the future of sensors at SINTEF
Do you want to spend next summer working side-by-side with SINTEF researchers on real projects that make a difference?
At SINTEF, our vision is technology for a better society. We work across sectors ranging from the seabed to outer space, developing solutions that drive sustainable growth and value creation. Sensors are at the heart of this mission: they enable digitalisation and autonomy in everything from robotics and medical devices to industrial process control. Better sensor data means better decisions, better AI, and smarter systems.
Why join us?
- Hands-on research: Work on active projects with clients, guided by an experienced mentor.
- Diverse community: Be part of a summer cohort with students across SINTEF, with organised social activities and networking.
- Career pathways: Explore opportunities for future master’s theses, PhD fellowships, or even full-time research positions.
- Cutting-edge labs: Join over 80 researchers in Oslo at the Department of Smart Sensors and Microsystems, working from nanoscale chip design to full system prototypes.
What will you do?
We shape the summer tasks around both our projects and your interests. Whether you love:
- Building and tinkering in the lab
- Taking measurements in the field
- Deep diving into real-world sensor datasets and analytics
- Working with precision at the micro- and nano-scale
…there’s a place for you here.
We are looking for students (preferably 3rd–4th year) to be able to work with us in the summer period (typically June to August). We also want them to take holidays in July (e.g. 2 weeks).
Areas of sensor research that we work with
- Applied optics and computer vision
- Technology for demanding environments
- Micro-optics, bioMEMS and medical sensors
- MEMS, radiation sensors, piezoelectric microsystems
- Quantum technology
Practical details
- Location: Oslo
- Duration: Summer 2026 (exact weeks to be agreed)
- Compensation: Paid internship
