Sammendrag
The Optimization Group at SINTEF ICT does algorithmic research and development in applied optimization and planning. Applications are found in many areas, including transportation, sports tournaments, finance, and health care. Working with such a wide range of industrial applications, our focus is on choosing or developing the right kind of algorithms for the problem at hand. The complexity inherent in many of these problems often leads to the application of heuristic search methods rather than exact methods, or in some cases, combinations of the two.The seminar gives a presentation of our group and the way we work.We then go on to give some examples of our current research activities, the challenges we face and the solution methods we apply to solve them.
