Potential and Limitations for ""Domain Decomposition"" Multiscale Methods

Sammendrag

We give an overview of various multiscale methods for solving flow in porous media. Common for all the methods, is that they need to impose some kind of correction functions and extra iterations to account for effects that cannot be described by a homogeneous Poisson-type equations. Hence, the resulting methods have many similarities with classical domain decomposition methods.   We outline and discuss various workflows and simulation settings where the multiscale methods have a potential to provide significantly faster simulations. Likewise, we discuss some of the limitations inherent in these methods.
