SINTEF is seeking a motivated and skilled Analytical Chemist to strengthen our multidisciplinary research team. In this role, you will apply state-of-the-art analytical techniques to solve complex scientific and industrial challenges, supporting projects that contribute to a more sustainable and innovative society.
You will join a team of highly skilled scientists and engineers and have the opportunity to work across diverse research areas including the green shift, carbon capture, emission monitoring, health, nanomedicine, food/feed, material and mineral characterization, process development and industrial measurements. We operate a modern and diverse platform with analytical instrumentation such as LC-MS/MS, GC-FID and GC-MS/MS, ICP-MS including LA-ICP-MS, SEC-MALLS, FFF, and high-resolution and other advanced mass spectrometers (HRMS/FTICR, QTOF, CDMS) with different sample introduction and ionisation capabilities. Our aim is to be a leading R&D partner in physico-chemical characterization and advanced organic and inorganic analysis in Europe.
Your responsibilities
- Contribute to research and development projects in collaboration with scientists, engineers, and industry partners.
- Plan, perform, and report experiments
- Develop advanced analytical workflows – from sample preparation to instrument methods
- Handle, visualize, and interpret analytical data
- Generate research projects, write proposals, and contribute to project management.
- Support other researchers and industry partners on how to use analytical chemistry to solve scientific challenges.
- Dissemination of research findings in scientific publications and to the public

Qualifications
- MSc or PhD in a relevant subject area
- Competence and experience in mass spectrometry, and chromatographic and other separation techniques, such as GC, HPLC, IC, SEC and FFF.
- Experience in high-resolution mass spectrometry (QTOF, Orbitrap, FTICR) and GC-MS is an advantage
- Strong knowledge of method development
- Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis
- Strong knowledge of analytical data processing, handling, and interpretation.
- Excellent communication skills in English, and – preferably – in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. We offer Norwegian courses for non-Norwegian speaking employees.
