Utilization of Cement Kilns for Environmentally Sound Management of Hazardous and Industrial Wastes in China

Sammendrag

A Sino-Norwegian project on environmentally sound management of hazardous and industrial wastes in cement kilns in China started January 2007 and will continue for 3 years. The starting point was to identify at least 5 cement plants in different regions in China that will serve as pilot co-processing plants and then identify suitable wastes in their respective areas. Suitable means large enough quantity to be interesting for industrial co-processing, have a calorific value, not influencing the cement negatively etc.   Although financed by Norway, most of the work will be carried out by the Chinese at China Research Academy for Environmental Science (CRAES) together with SINTEF employees being international experts securing technology transfer of Best Available Techniques and Best Environmental Practise on co-processing wastes in cement kilns. The final output will be draft guidelines for environmentally sound co-processing of hazardous and industrial wastes in the cement industry prepared for the Chinese State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA).
