Impact of Mineral Composition on Heat-Conducting Properties of Frozen Volcanic Ashes from Kamchatka

Sammendrag

The article describes the results of an experimental study into thermal-conducting properties of thawed and frozen volcanic ashes sampled in Kamchatka. The data were generalized according to their dependences on the degree of saturation (Sr). The impact the mineral composition have on the studied thermal-conducting characteristics was identified. For example, at a fixed Sr value the thermal-conducting characteristics (thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity) are higher for ashes containing acidic glass (this composition was defined as opal) and lower for ashes with mafic glass (allophane).
