Real time hybrid model test in ocean basin - TRL3

In real-time hybrid model testing, wind loads are applied via a set of actuators, controlled by FAST/AeroDyn. This experimental technique allows obtaining correct non-thrust wind loads, which is a major improvement compared to tank tests with physical wind.
This more accurate experimental method allows a more reliable de-risking, and optimization, of novel concepts.
A first experimental campaign has been conducted in MARINTEK's towing tank, where the system was developed, tuned, and trouble-shot. The next experiment using this method is an Ocean Basin test of the NOWITECH semi-submersible concept in 2015.
