SafeBESS: Technology and building design for safe operation of battery energy storage systems

SafeBESS result presented at the 11th International Seminar on Fire and Explosion Hazards (ISFEH 11)

ISFEH 11 took place in Rome from 15th to 20th of June 2025 and was hosted by the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering at Sapienza University. The Seminar brought together researchers, engineers, and professionals from around the world, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and presenting cutting-edge research on fire and explosion hazards, including battery-related topics.

SafeBESS was represented with two oral presentations during the conference. Phd candidate Cristina Sanfeliu Melia presented her work related to Fire behaviour tests for lithium-ion batteries: a systematic review of battery characteristics, Fire test conditions and Fire properties. Research scientist and work package leader Brynhild Garberg Olsø presented scientific results from work package 3 battery rom design requirements on the topic “Analysis of Ventilation Parameters for Explosion Risk Mitigation In Li-Ion Battery Rooms”.
