At SINTEF, we develop knowledge and technology to understand, describe and predict processes in the ocean, ranging from physical current dynamics to biological and ecological systems.
This field encompasses high-resolution ocean modelling, digital twins of marine systems, data assimilation, observation technology, and coupled models for particle transport, ecosystems and environmental impact.
The aim is to provide enhanced situational awareness and more accurate decision-making for fisheries, offshore operations, management authorities, and safety and emergency preparedness.
Data gathering and -processing
Today's maritime operations generate vast amounts of data from sensors, satellites and autonomous platforms. We develop solutions that transform these data into operational insight, enabling decision-makers to gain a comprehensive situational picture.
A central part of this, is the use of both vessels and autonomous systems, above and below the water surface, to collect data and extend the reach of operations. Combined with advanced modelling tools (SINMOD, OSP, OSCAR and DREAM), this enables monitoring, mapping and understanding of dynamic ocean processes, from current conditions and particle transport to biological resources and environmental impact.
