Biomass and biomaterials

SINTEF has many activities related to processing and utilization of marine- and land-based biomass. Research on land-based biomass mainly focus on the use of residues from agriculture and forestry as raw materials for production of bio-based chemicals, materials and energy. Research on marine biomass also include isolation of valuable products, including biopolymers, that are used to design functional biomaterials for industrial and biomedical applications.

ELOXYCHEM – Electrochemical OXidation of cYclic and biogenic substrates for high efficiency production of organic CHEMicals

ELOXYCHEM will establish a electrochemical oxidation process that will replace existing thermochemical processes that are reliant on imported materials such as nitric acid and imported fossil-fuels.
