Batteries
SINTEF performs research covering large parts of the battery value chain.
Reliable components in the transmission and distribution network are essential to the future power system, which needs to deliver secure, sustainable, competitive, and affordable energy to society. These components will need to withstand new stresses and operating patterns brought about by factors such as the electrification of transport and the growing share of variable renewable power generation.
Our extensive laboratories are central to our research activities. We operate approximately 5,000 m² of lab facilities equipped with advanced electrical engineering and materials-testing equipment. In addition, we have state-of-the-art measurement systems for field testing and monitoring.
We have experience in projects for the Norwegian and international electrical engineering industry, energy utilities, and the maritime sector. Through our own research projects, we also contribute actively to master's and doctoral education at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
The department is located at SINTEF Energy Research, Sem Sælands vei 11, Trondheim, and at SINTEF Energy Lab, Anne Martha Kvams veg 35, Trondheim.
