WP1 Review of studies that reduce fuel consumption and seabed contact
Objectives: Review of studies and modifications that (i) improve the fuel efficiency of fishing gears and (ii) reduce the bottom contact of fishing gears.
Description: Much research has taken place to reduce fuel consumption, minimise seabed contact, and decrease the drag of fishing gears. Here we will carry out comprehensive reviews of the approaches and methods used, and evaluate and rank their efficacy. This will involve all partners and include both modifications that have been tested scientifically and published in peer-reviewed publications and those that have been tested by industry and which are in industry reports and the grey literature. The reviews will inform the design and development of the case study gears of WP4 and WP5.
