Grading cable faults

All failures and outages are registered by the network operators in a system called FASIT (Knut A. Rosvold; Store Norske Leksikon), hence the operators have substantial amounts of historical data about faults and outages. However, the level of detail in the registrations differ, for example the degree of detail in information regarding the location and cause of failure.

The goal of this demonstrator in ENERGYTICS is to use historical failure data for cables to determine parameters which are relevant to predict probability of failures in cables, identifying parameters which are not included in the datasets but could be useful in predicting probability of failures, and hopefully being able to predict the probability of failures in cables and pinpoint reinvestments to areas with high probability of failure. This can enable the network operators to decrease the number of failures in the grid. Eventually this can be extended to other network components than cables.
