Imaging & 3D Sensors

When spatial or depth-resolved information is needed beyond single-point measurements, we develop robust optical solutions for 2D and 3D imaging systems.

We develop robust optical solutions for 2D, 3D and thermal imaging where commercially available products do not solve the measurement needs. Our system approach goes beyond the camera: we develop lighting, optical geometries, calibration, and advanced computational rendering, ensuring that the data we deliver is optimal quality and ready for demanding user applications. Advanced imaging methods provide insight to our customers, by giving in-depth information about colour, surface texture, shape, chemical composition, temperature, structural integrity, and much more.

In these advanced systems, precise control of the optical and electronic measurement chain is critical. We work with high-speed and time-resolved imaging, pulsed illumination, precise timing and synchronisation, and development of specialised test benches for readout and characterization of novel image sensors and detectors. With competence in high-performance electronics and embedded systems, we cover the whole signal chain from individual components to complete systems, enabling us to deliver validated imaging systems for novel and hard to solve problems.

We work closely with our colleagues in the Computer Vision group, tightly integrating innovative optical design with advanced image analysis, AI, and machine learning. This interdisciplinary approach allows us to optimise both how information is captured and how it is interpreted, creating imaging systems that are physically robust and computationally intelligent.

Our imaging solutions support a wide range of application areas, including:

By combining expertise in optics, detectors, electronics, embedded systems and computer vision, we develop imaging platforms that perform reliably in demanding operational environments — on land, underwater and in space.
