The need for energy storage systems is increasing, especially in the electrification of the transport sector by development of electric cars and buses. Another noticeable area of application is in the stationary energy sector where there is an increasing demand for grid balancing of intermittent renewable power such as wind and solar.
The use of electrochemical energy storage and conversion has also reached the maritime industry. In Norway, several demonstration projects have been started by innovative shipping companies. It is expected that the market for batteries both in the stationary and transport sector will increase in the future.
