Our research is developing the future's system solutions for hydropower, wind power and the power grid at the Norwegian, Nordic and European level –including in production planning, the development of offshore wind power and smart grids. We conduct internationally leading research that covers the entire energy chain, from production through storage and distribution, to end-use and environmental impacts.

IMPACT: SINTEF Joins €3.3m EU Wave Energy Research Project

Trondheim-based research institutes SINTEF Energy Research and SINTEF Ocean are both taking part in a new collaborative research and innovation project that will develop and demonstrate a next generation testing approach for Wave Energy Converters (WECs).

Norway launches major wind power research centre

December 11th – Today the Norwegian Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Tina Bru, announced an investment of 120 million NOK (11.3 million EUR) in a new wind power research centre in Norway. The NorthWind research centre will be at the cutting edge, working on innovations to make wind power cheaper, more efficient, and more sustainable. One of the centre’s main priorities will be offshore wind research.
