WP4 - Noise propagation modeling

This work package aims to improve predictions of amplitude modulation (AM) and long-distance sound levels

WP4 evaluates and refines wind turbine noise propagation models by drawing on both established engineering methods (ISO 9613-2, Nord 2000) and an advanced curved ray-tracing approach capable of handling complex terrain and inhomogeneous range-dependent atmospheric conditions. Leveraging the noise source models from WP3—along with field measurements and operational data from WP2—this work package aims to improve predictions of amplitude modulation (AM) and long-distance sound levels. The combined insights from WP3 and WP4 will yield more reliable noise impact assessments in diverse Norwegian topographies and meteorological settings

This will be done through the following tasks:

  • T4.1 Implementation of Sound Propagation Models
  • T4.2 Model Assessment
  • T4.3 Mitigation/Improvement
