PreWinT - Prediction and Mitigation of Wind-Turbine Noise and Its Impact on Humans
WP3 - Noise source modeling
WP3 concentrates on evaluating and refining wind turbine noise generation models using the field data collected in WP2.

Existing models—ranging from single-point sources at the turbine hub to distributed bladesource theories—will be assessed to identify discrepancies and pinpoint specific conditions under which models deviate from measurements.
Detailed inflow field simulations (cf. T2.3 in WP2) will also be leveraged to investigate noise mechanisms, particularly the emergence of “other amplitude modulation” (OAM), which is linked to transient stall effects under wind shear, turbulence, or flow variability. By addressing these model gaps and refining source predictions, WP3 aims to provide a solid foundation for propagation modeling (WP4) and operational optimization strategies (WP5).
Through the following tasks, accurate predictions will be ensured under all conditions, with a focus on Norwegian environments:
- T3.1 Evaluation of Existing Source Models
- T3.2 Identifying and Mitigating Model Limitations
