Modernising Europe's air traffic management
The SESAR programme is the technological pillar of the EU’s Single European Sky policy and a key enabler of the European Commission’s Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. SESAR takes an integrated approach to modernising Europe’s air traffic management (ATM), with over 180 ongoing solutions addressing different aspects of the system. To ensure that these solutions meet SESAR’s overall performance ambitions, the programme relies on the PEARL project.
In the dynamic realm of air traffic management, aligning performance assessments with ambitious objectives has been a persistent challenge. To bridge this gap, the EU-funded PEARL project, under the guidance of SESAR 3 JU, has emerged as a beacon of innovation.
Unify performance evaluations from research and innovation projects
Overall, PEARL’s mission is to seamlessly reconcile performance evaluations from research and innovation projects with the SESAR performance ambitions, promising a more efficient and precise future for air traffic management.
Furthermore, the PEARL project will maintain the SESAR Performance Framework and related materials and stand ready to provide additional ad hoc activities as needed.
Guidance and support in cybersecurity risk assessment
In the PEARL project, SINTEF is an active contributor, offering guidance and support on cyber risk assessment and elicitation of security requirements for the ongoing SESAR solutions. In their roles as security champions in the ATM community, the involved researchers from SINTEF are hence contributing to a more secure and resilient future of the airborne transportation in Europe.
