IRMA - Incident response mangement

The main goal of IRMA was to improve information security in the oil and gas industry, with focus on integrated operations, through developing a method for incident response management.

Contact person

Integrated operations leads to a change in technology where production and support systems are connected and people on- and offshore cooperates on controlling processes offshore. Production and support systems include all kinds of electronic hardware and software. The trend is to connect the different kinds of systems, which brings along a set of threats and vulnerabilities that has not been relevant to the industry before. The challenges are on many levels; technical, human and organisational aspects must be taken into consideration.

Well-structured incident response management helps an organization reducing costs and consequences following security breaches. Experiences made in connection with an incident should be used as input for the risk management process and also for the work on increasing awareness related to information security.

IRMA was financed by the Norwegian Research Council and the Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) from 2005 to 2008.
