The overall objective of the project is to study and recommend different sustainable technologies for large scale macroalgae and marine aquaculture that can be applied to the Brazilian coast

Access to omega 3 sources in fish feed is a limiting factor for growth in aquaculture. Researchers from SINTEF and NTNU will explore the potential of using bacteria as a "production machine" for the beneficial fatty acids.

As an R&D partner in NOWITECH (Norwegian Research Centre for Offshore Wind Technology), SINTEF Ocean have been actively involved in developing robust numerical tools for the design and modelling of bottom-fixed offshore wind turbines.

The European Union project MUNIN (Maritime Unmanned Navigation through intelligence in Networks) is studying the possibilities of realising a completely unmanned ship by looking at the need for new sensor systems, improved maintenance methods...

In a strategic internal project SINTEF has extended and integrated existing software into a new efficient simulation tool capable of simulating all phases in the launch of a free fall lifeboat in wind and waves.

Important work on the validation of shiphandling manoeuvring models is being conducted in the R&D project SimVal (“Sea Trials and Model Tests for Validation of Shiphandling Simulation Models”, founded by the Research Council of Norway).

The Cargo Ferry research project is supported by MAROFF and aims to develop an integrated concept for goods transport along the Norwegian coast and between Norway and its nearest neighbouring country.
