Sandeep Kumar Singh, a PhD student from IIT Kharagpur in India was on research exchange to SINTEF Ocean in the #RE-food project from August to October last year. During his stay he worked together with researchers at SINTEF Ocean and NTNU on dynamic routing in the whitefish supply chain connected to the #iProcess project.
The mission of the Indo-Norwegian project RE-food is to strengthen the collaboration between India and Norway and specially to enhance the sustainable technologies for food processing and preservation. This is in accordance with the Norwegian Government's strategy for cooperation with India. Research exchange is an important initiative of the RE-food project, and so far in the project we have had two researchers from SINTEF Ocean visiting our partner institutions in India, which are IIT Kharagpur, CIFT-CFTRI and AMITY University. Currently, 6 students from NTNU are on similar exchanges. PhD students from IIT Kharagpur have visited SINTEF Ocean and NTNU for a few months. Sandeep was one of these students.
During his stay at SINTEF Ocean, Sandeep worked in iProcess project on developing a decision support system (DSS) to investigate the impact of dynamic vehicle routing for whitefish supply chain, which will be a part of his PhD thesis. Sandeep worked with Norwegian whitefish supply chain and learned a lot during his stay about the Norwegian whitefish industry. The Norwegian whitefish supply chain is very complex due to an intrinsic focus on quality and high logistic demands. Delivery of the right product to the right processor enables one to reduce whitefish losses, make higher profit and increase the performance of the supply chain. In his work he focused on optimizing the delivery strategies to minimize travel distance as well as the losses in the whitefish supply chain. He also had the opportunity to present a conference paper for SINTEF Ocean during WEFTA (West European Fish Technologists Association) conference in Portugal.
