Domestic hot water

SINTEF analyzes the energy needs for domestic hot water in buildings, energy losses related to this, and more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions for the use of tap water in different building types.

Buildings stand for one-third of the energy consumption in Norway. The share of energy used to heat water is significant, and expected to increase as buildings become more energy efficient. Therefore, knowledge of the actual use of hot water is important when planning, designing, and operating heating systems.

We work within the following fields:

  • Energy measurements in buildings
  • Analysis of energy needs and energy loss
  • 24-hour profiles for energy use
  • Energy flexibility

Why choose SINTEF?
SINTEF contributes to these choices through research on more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly solutions for tap water in different building types.
