VR Laboratory

SINTEF uses Virtual Reality to research, among other things, evacuation in tunnels, traffic safety, and driving conditions.

Virtual Reality (VR) makes it easier, cheaper, and safer to conduct experiments where you want to research actual conditions. As a result, VR has become an important research tool in psychology, neuroscience, health, marketing, architecture, lighting, and mobility.

Our VR lab is mainly used in transport research such as evacuation and safety in tunnels, traffic safety for children who cycle, the effect of traffic safety campaigns, and testing driving conditions for motorcyclists.

VR can also be a valuable tool in the construction industry. For example, Building Information Modeling (BIM) makes it possible to create information-rich virtual models to visualize construction projects that can be used to make the design phase more efficient while improving collaboration and communication between the parties in a project.

VR has become a valuable tool in projects that use BIM because it can bring design "to life" and add value to the projects.

In our VR lab, we have:

  • Next Racing Level driving simulator
  • Virtualizer Walking Platform
  • Bicycle
  • VR - glasses with and without eye-tracking function

We have expertise in simulating different environments, virtual programming scenarios, and regulating external parameters such as temperature.
