Unlocking the Power of 3D Vision for Industry, Space, and the Deep Sea.

SINTEF's Computer Vision group operates a dedicated 3D sensing laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art stereo vision, structured light, time-of-flight, and LiDAR systems. Combined with deep expertise in computer vision, robotics, autonomy, AI, and 3D analysis, this allows us to evaluate sensing technologies and recommend the right solution for a given application.

We support applications ranging from dimensional measurement and industrial inspection to robot guidance, localization, and situational awareness, while identifying potential limitations related to lighting, materials, environment, range, and accuracy. Through testing, benchmarking, prototyping, and field validation, we help customers reduce risk, shorten development time, and deploy robust vision systems with confidence.

What We Offer

Our lab provides state-of-the-art facilities and expertise for the development, customization, and deployment of 3D camera systems. We support industrial partners and research collaborators with:

  • Custom 3D Camera Design: From concept to prototype, we design and build 3D cameras tailored to your specific needs, whether for industrial automation, inspection, or research.
  • Rapid prototyping: Our large inventory of both off-the-shelf 3D cameras and optical components allows us to rapidly prototype solutions based on both existing and novel concepts.
  • Testing and Validation: Our infrastructure allows for rigorous testing of 3D imaging systems in real-world and simulated environments, including underwater, industrial, and even space-like conditions.
  • Data Analysis and Application Development: We offer advanced analysis of 3D point clouds and support the integration of 3D vision into autonomous systems and robotics.
