Innovation and business opportunities in green aviation

The introduction of climate friendly aircrafts provides new business opportunities for Norwegian companies.

Contact persons

Aviation is facing a challenging transition from aircrafts powered by petroleum-based jet fuel to climate-friendly alternatives. This entails a large need for knowledge about the new competences and investments required by the alternatives. It also creates new business opportunities for Norwegian companies.

This study will describe three main categories of new powertrains for aircrafts:

  • battery-electric
  • hybrid
  • hydrogen-based solutions.

Document analysis and semi-structured interviews with industry experts will shed light on how the market appears to develop in 5-10 years' time.

The findings will be summarized in a project report covering technologies inside aircrafts, the need for new infrastructure at airports and new travel patterns. The purpose is to stimulate discussion on how Norwegian companies can position themselves to take part in the development and offer products and services adapted to the new aircraft.

The project is funded by Start Norge AS, a non-profit organization that works to promote the transition to green aviation in Norway.
