As Germany intensifies its healthcare digitalization, attention is turning to the role of artificial intelligence in daily clinical work.

Artificial Intelligence in General Practice - Relevance, Safety, and Sustainability

This project explores how an AI-powered chatbot can support German GPs in a way that respects professional responsibility, strengthens patient safety, and aligns with environmental goals. The solution will be integrated into Deximed- the German version of the Norwegian Electronic Medical Handbook (NEL), developed by Norsk Helseinformatikk (NHI), a health information company based in Norway.

A user-centered approach grounded in clinical reality

The project gathers perspectives from German general practitioners through qualitative methods such as workshop and focus group interviews. The aim is to understand practical needs, ethical concerns, and functional requirements to ensure the chatbot meets real-world expectations. Topics include usability, data responsibility, integration into workflows, and sustainability.

Foundations for future medical AI

Led by SINTEF Digital in collaboration with NHI/NEL, the project contributes to a knowledge base for the future development and evaluation of AI tools in healthcare. The insights will be relevant not only for Germany but for any context where generative AI may support clinical decision-making in a safe and responsible manner.
