ATM U-Space Interface» (PJ34-W3 AURA)

Up to ten times more drone traffic compared to manned aviation is expected by the end of the next decade. SINTEF is preparing for the integration of these unmanned entrants into the shared airspace.

There is a need for a much higher level of automation to integrate new actors into the shared airspace as drone traffic is increasing rapidly.

One concept to manage the safe separation of manned and unmanned traffic is the ATM-U-Space Shared Airspace (AUSA), where parts of the manned airspace can be dynamically reconfigured to be used by unmanned air traffic.

SINTEF is developing tools for advanced management of those shared airspaces to increase their resilience. This includes capabilities on both the U-Space and air traffic management sides, but also the ability to exchange the necessary information between those two sides through a common interface.

In addition, SINTEF addresses cyber security, a topic that is getting even more important in the context of higher automation.

This work is a part of the SESAR project «ATM U-Space Interface» (PJ34-W3 AURA).
