One of the main objectives of the "Assessment of technical condition and lifetime of T&D components " project was to find models to calculate remaining lifetime, failure probability and risk and component life cycle cost. At the same time a tool for effective collection and utilization of lifetime data was developed.
Through identifying and specifying the condition criteria, failure mechanisms and lifetime curves for the components, optimal strategies and decisions relating to maintenance, renewal and reinvestment were designed. Technical condition is as important as age regarding the optimal time to renew components.
