About us

SINTEF Ocean carries out research and innovation connected to the ocean space for national and international industry. Our ambition is to maintain Norway’s leading position within marine technology and biomarine research.

Many of the challenges of today’s society can be met through sustainable use of the oceans. OECD has estimated that we will double the value creation from the ocean industries globally by 2030, if we exploit the synergies between them and develop the industry sustainably.

Transportation, food- and energy production are the backbone of the ocean-based industries, and the core areas of SINTEF Ocean. In addition, we focus on environmental technology, and are among the world’s leaders in marine technology. Through the collaboration within the SINTEF organisation, we can add technological expertise from several other industrial sectors.
