Modern Data Acquisition

Modern Data Acquisition

SINTEF has gained considerable experience in data acquisition from vehicle sensor units. Based on data collected from smartphones, we can obtain motion data of vulnerable road users (e.g. pedestrians and cyclists). Such data can be used to analyse travel behaviour for pedestrians, cyclists, and users of public transport.

Because modern data acquisition entails a strong consideration of privacy, SINTEF strictly follows procedures laid out by The Norwegian Data Protection Authority. By associating data from different sources, proactive systems can be developed (i.e. systems designed to prevent undesired events in traffic situations). Common R&D tasks consist of defining key performance indicators, specifying data requirements and sources, evaluating data quality, and configuring and connecting data acquisition equipment in vehicles.
