International relations and geopolitics

SINTEF researches geopolitics, international collaboration and how disagreements can develop and become conflicts both within and betweeen nations - and how this in turn affets the environment - and vice versa. We also look at developing nations with emphasis on emerging economies (BRICS) with high rates of growth, and how these are increasingly influencing interational politics and the development of international law relating to plastics, climate, biodiversity or fisheries to name a few. Methods we use: We are continously developing and adapting more precise and user-friendly tools and methodologies for the coding of narratives in international governance arenas so that we can qualitatively measure how power structures and other factors influence negotiations and post-implementation regime effectiveness.
