Concrete: Curing technology and crack control

SINTEF performs simulations and calculations of concrete structures' temperature and property development in the hardening phase.

The purpose is to optimize hardening measures to ensure progress in the construction project while maintaining quality and avoiding unwanted cracks.

SINTEF's experts use various software for concrete and hardening technology. We assist in the early phase of the planning, from the concrete composition at the mixing plant to the finished construction.

We have test equipment at our disposal, in cooperation with NTNU, that provides a basis for accurate analyses of the concrete's behaviour in a given structural part in the hardening phase, e.g., rigs for measuring the free deformation of concrete in insulated, temperature-controlled forms, and a modern tension rig (Temperature-Stress Testing Machine, TSTM), for measuring the stress built up when the free deformation is restrained.
