The discussion considers the potential and limits of digital tools to foster a more sustainable use of marine resources. Based on real-life pilots across seafood value chains, the session goes beyond technical solutions to discuss the socio-economic, organizational and cultural barriers to adoption.

The dialogue will address essential issues such as data transparency, power asymmetries between actors and the fragmentation of governance and digital standards.

Key questions include

What kind of transparency do we need and who is it for?

Are traceability challenges inherent to the seafood sector or shaped by value chain structures?

Can digital tools overcome real-world constraints?

Hosted by the SEA2SEE Project in collaboration with EveryFish, TITAN, and FishEUTrust, this open discussion will unpack the real-world challenges and opportunities of digital tools like blockchain in supporting transparent, sustainable and traceable fisheries and aquaculture.
