Robert Fritzsch is a Scientist at SINTEF Industry's Metal Production and Processing (MPP) Department, working in the Plasma Group since 2024. His research focuses on thermal plasma technologies, development of the High Enthalpy Plasma (HEP) torch, and electrification of metallurgical and high-temperature industrial processes. He has a background in the aluminium industry and extensive experience in electromagnetic systems, including induction-based MHD pumping, molten metal processing, and proce
Education
Robert Fritzsch holds a Dipl.-Ing. (M.Sc.) in Materials Science from the Technical University of Berlin and a Ph.D. in Applied Metallurgy and Thermodynamics from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). His doctoral research focused on electromagnetically enhanced ceramic foam filtration for aluminium processing. He has since combined industrial R&D with academic work and currently serves as Adjunct Associate Professor (Førsteamanuensis II) at NTNU (from 2022 to 2024).
Competence and research areas
Robert Fritzsch conducts research in thermal plasma technology, industrial electrification, and metallurgical process development. His work focuses on the High Enthalpy Plasma (HEP) systems for high-temperature applications in metals, minerals, recycling, and energy-intensive industries. His expertise includes liquid metal processing, aluminium metallurgy, electromagnetic systems, induction technologies, thermodynamics, process modelling, and technology scale-up.
