There is enough energy in the earth crust to cover all world energy usage. The largest heat resources are in deep rocks of low natural permeability. New materials and technology is needed for worldwide use.
SINTEF is modeling, developing and testing new materials such as: metals, ceramics, concrete, polymers and electronics, for high temperature and pressure conditions, and geotechnical, reservoir, drilling and processing engineering for high pressure and temperature wells.
In addition to safety, reliability and risk analysis, our goal is to contribute to the development of the required Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS).
SINTEF contributes to the Norwegian Centre for Geothermal Energy Research (CGER) to define the national technology strategy and research in the area.
