Gemini Centre for Offshore Wind

The Gemini Centre brings together offshore wind research communities at NTNU and SINTEF.

The centre provides a formal meeting point between NTNU Energy Team Wind and SINTEF's corporate initiative on wind energy. Both encompass multiple research communities with a need for stronger connections in the field of offshore wind. The collaboration between NTNU and SINTEF in offshore wind has existed for many years and developed over time. For example, some units from both organisations are partners in FME NorthWind (2021–2029).

The purpose of establishing a Gemini Centre for Offshore Wind is to strengthen the collaboration between NTNU and SINTEF, thereby achieving an enhanced portfolio of outstanding education, research, and innovation that will contribute to the sustainable development of offshore wind resources and a strong supplier industry.

A reinforced collaboration within the Gemini Centre will foster new relationships among research scientists and involve more academic groups than would typically be included in a single research project or FME. The Gemini Centre will support joint project development in cooperation with leading industrial players in Norway and internationally, connecting actors, sectors, and industries to achieve the best possible outcomes. We will work across the entire offshore wind value chain in ways that support both Norwegian suppliers and developers.

Kick-off of the Gemini Centre for Offshore Wind

The Centre will hold its official internal kick-off at SINTEF Energy Research’s premises on NTNU’s Gløshaugen campus in Trondheim on 8 September 2025.
