About the position
SINTEF Ocean is seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to strengthen our capabilities in digital twin development for marine environments. As part of our Climate and Sustainability team, you will contribute to cutting-edge research and innovation in digital twins, supporting the sustainable management of marine ecosystems, offshore operations, and ocean-based industries. This position is in line with our strategic focus on digitalization digitalisation, and data-driven storytelling and decision-making for a more sustainable ocean economy.
Our team has built extensive expertise in digital twins through major EU projects such as Iliad, CLIMAREST, DTO-BioFlow, and SEADOTs, where we have leading roles. The demand for our expertise is growing rapidly, and so are new projects and ideas. To meet the market and further refine our portfolio, we are looking to strengthen our team with someone who can take over key responsibilities, drive new initiatives, and contribute to expanding our research in digital ocean applications, including twins.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement digital (twin) solutions for marine environments, integrating real-time data, numerical models, and machine learning techniques.
- Design, develop, and maintain operational data pipelines.
- Visualise data and models for a range of end users.
- Work on semantic data integration and digital applications for ocean and fjord operations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across SINTEF Ocean and external partners in industry, academia, and government.
- Contribute to project acquisition, proposal writing, and scientific publications.
- Communicate digital solutions effectively to stakeholders, bridging research and practical applications.
- Develop and implement data management plans.
Desired qualifications and experience
- Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Marine Technology, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills (Python, R) and experience in developing software for data-driven applications.
- Expertise in data management, machine learning, and data visualisation techniques.
- Experience with cloud technologies and web-based applications is a plus.
- Understanding of semantic data interoperability and operational data pipelines.
- Proven ability in working on interdisciplinary projects and collaborating across expertises and fields.
- Expertise in ecology, marine biology or similar subject is a plus.
- Documented successful project acquisition is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills in English and at least one other European language; knowledge of a Scandinavian language is an advantage.
- An established international network within digital ocean research is a plus.
