Review on Typical Marine Operations in Aquaculture and Numerical Simulation of One Example Operation Scenario

Abstract

Aquaculture of Atlantic salmon in coastal and offshore locations is an operation intensive industry. This paper gives an overview of the most typical marine operations in the aquaculture of Atlantic salmon. Descriptions of these operations are introduced in the first place, which is followed by current procedures of performing these operations. Challenges in performing some of the operations are explained and possible ways to improve the safety and efficiency of such operations are discussed. Numerical modelling of one typical operation scenario is established: a well boat moored to a fish cage. The well boat/fish cage motion and the force in the connections between cage and boat are calculated under regular waves and current. The numerical simulation work is performed with SIMO and RIFLEX inside SIMA.
