Abstract
Smart Maritime is one of 17 new SFI centers granted by The Research Council (SFI-III) in 2014. A Centre for Research Based Innovation (SFI) provides an opportunity for long term cooperation between industry companies and research partners. Norway is one of the world 's leading seafaring nations and is in the forefront of maritime innovation and research. 80 - 90 percent of world trade is transported at sea. If Smart Maritime meet our goals in the coming years, the improvements in energy efficiency for ships will make major contributions to the global "green shift".
