A Phenomenological Reaction Model for Flash and TGA Pyrolysis of Coal

Abstract

A phenomenological pyrolysis reaction model is presented which is mainly based on library data produced by Xu & Tomita (1987) at Tohoku University. Referring to the investigation made by Arntsberg (2004), the model uses the characteristic atomic ratio, , as the only independent variable which represents the coal type. Following the method presented by Green & Chaube (2004), a successful analytical representation of Xu & Tomita's data is represented which includes both temperature dependence and coal type dependence of yield of different pyrolysis products. The modelling study provides the mass transfer model needed for the numerical modelling of coal pyrolysis.
