MAIA WP 7 Report: Validation and recommendations

Abstract

MAIA (Monitoring the Atlantic Inflow toward the Arctic) is an EU Fifth Framework Programme shared cost RTD project supporting Key Action 2 (Global Change, Climate and Biodiversity) of Theme 4: Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development (Contract No. EVK2-CT-1999-00008). The MAIA partners are: • SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture, Trondheim, Norway • NERC Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory, Bidston, UK • Fisheries Research Services Marine Laboratory, Aberdeen, UK • Institute of Marine Research, Bergen, Norway • Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, Norrköping, Sweden • Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Laboratoire d'Oceanographie Dynamique et de Climatologie, Paris, France The present report presents the main results of the project. This is the main scientific deliverable for MAIA in 2002. The historical analyses are summarised and the derived algorithms are tested to field data from the validation experiment, 2000-2001. Improvements toward the MAIA goals for accuracy and resolution are noted and recommendations for future gains are made.
