MAIA (Monitoring the Atlantic Inflow toward the Arctic) is an EU Fifth Framework Programme shared cost RTD project supporting Key Action 2 (Global Change, Climate and Biodiversity) of Theme 4: Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development (Contract No. EVK2-CT-1999-00008). This is the main scientific deliverable for MAIA in 2002. The historical analyses are summarised and the derived algorithms are tested to field data from the validation experiment, 2000-2001. Improvements toward the MAIA goals for accuracy and resolution are noted and recommendations for future gains are made.
