Cement kiln co-processing technology for management of waste from automobile industry in an ecological sustaining manner

Abstract

India is a growing country and a large number of Automobile industries are being set up in different
parts of the country. This growth in the automobile industry is leading to generation of large
quantum of wastes such as Paint Sludge, Phosphate sludge, ETP Sludge, Oil Soaked Cotton waste
etc. The current options of Incineration and land filling available for their disposal have a large
ecological foot print. The capacity of these options for providing the desired solutions locally is
also limited. The Automobile industry is thus facing considerable difficulty in achieving the
desired growth in a sustainable manner.
To dispose the wastes generated from automobile Industries in an environmentally sound manner,
cement kiln co-processing is in practice in many countries. This paper takes a look at how this
technology of cement kiln co-processing can offer the desired solution for management of wastes
generated from the Automobile industry in India. For this the case of incineration ash has been
evaluated. Incineration ash is the waste from the incinerating operation carried out to dispose the
paint sludge waste generated by the automobile industry.
