Stress responses and experiences of surgical trainees in simulation-based training of advanced laparoscopic procedures in highly realistic environments

Abstract

Simulation-based training (SBT) facilitates the acquisition of advanced laparoscopic surgical skills. These procedures are technically complex and can trigger stress responses in surgical trainees. This study compared objective and subjective stress responses of surgical trainees during advanced procedural training using box-trainers in a skills lab with those experienced during operative training on animal models in highly realistic simulation environments.
