Abstract
Norway's energy system is undergoing major change resulting from the ambitious climate goals set by Norway and the EU for 2030 and 2050. Achieving these climate goals will require increased and accelerated electrification, posing significant challenges for the power grid. Increasing demands for grid connections highlight the urgent need for a strategic approach to enable the grid to support electrification and the energy transition. In response, the research centre CINELDI (Centre for Intelligent Electricity Distribution) conducted a strategy process in collaboration with key stakeholders in the power grid sector. The outcome was a comprehensive strategy featuring three key messages and a roadmap outlining necessary measures for the grid transition towards 2040. These results aim to ensure that Norway’s power grid is prepared to meet the demands of electrification, more renewable energy and support the broader energy transition in a cost-effective, sustainable manner while ensuring the security of supply.
