High entropy alloys (HEA) have hardly been explored in the context of functional materials. The goal of this project is to identify novel semiconductors based on HEA. The methodology is based on a systematic high-throughput search for properties relevant for semiconductor-based technologies. Multi-source magnetron sputtering generates graded films and physical properties are screened along the composition ranges. Atomistic modelling complements the experimental work and optimization is carried out through machine learning, where intelligent data analysis is used to predict new compositions. HEATER is expected to give an important contribution to materials technology as well as to basic materials science.
HEATER is funded by the FRINATEK program of the Research Council of Norway and runs for 3 years with SINTEF (coordinator), UiO and NTNU as partners in close collaboration with the German Space Agency and the New University of Lisbon.
