Heavy vehicle driving simulator

A driving simulator for heavy vehicles has been used to study possible effects of measures prioritizing heavy vehicles, such as access to public transport lanes and priority in traffic lights. The tests were carried out using updated description of road network and traffic conditions for Trondheim. A secondary purpose for this activity was to gain experience with using a driving simulator to study this type of measures.  A video from the test is available on the project web site.

The test

The eight participants were recruited from the project partner Bring, and carried out four test runs representing four different scenarios. Two were daytime scenarios with the between peaks traffic conditions on weekdays, respectively with current lane regulations, and with the heavy vehicles getting access to the public transport lanes. The other pair of scenarios represented conditions at night, with low traffic levels and respectively the current light signals and a situation where the heavy vehicles are prioritized in the light signals, getting a "green wave".
