Health insurance and sick leave

This project will map the relationship between private health insurance and sick leave in companies. The project is a follow-up and continuation of a project that was completed in 2009 with a small range of businesses, and the main finding was that the drawing of health insurance had a significant positive impact on the registered long-term sickness.

The project is implemented largely in the same way as last time, where we make a survey of NHO 's members to identify the companies that have health insurance or not, and possibly when the policy was taken out. These data connected to time-series data from Statistics Norway, which shows the total sickness absence per business. By increasing the number of observations, we will be able to calculate more precisely a possible link between sickness and health insurance. We propose a limited survey, with very few question for every business:

  1. Do you have a health insurance per date?
  2. If so, when was this insurance taken?
  3. Covered employees in the company?
  4. What company is insurance in? If NHO agree we can send these questions to all members, or those who have more than five employees.

The survey is financed by NHO Working Environment Funding.

The results of the survey will be published in April 2015.
