SINTEF has received the “CSLF Recognition Award” for its contribution to CO2 capture and storage technology. Vice-president Sverre Aam of SINTEF Energy Research accepted the distinction on behalf of SINTEF.
The award was handed over at the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum’s (CSLF) ministerial meeting in London; the project was one of four completed projects that have made significant contributions to CO2 capture and storage. Terje Riis-Johansen, Norway’s own Minister of Petroleum and Energy, handed over the award in his capacity of host of the meeting.
The DYNAMIS project is the first phase of the EU’s HYPOGEN programme, which is intended to lead to the construction of an advanced full-scale power station that will generate both hydrogen and electric power, and will be fitted with CO2 capture and storage technology. The facility will be operational by 2015.
DYNAMIS has already carried out a thorough evaluation of the potential for full-scale hydrogen and electricity generation complemented by CO2 capture and storage, and the project has focused on the technological, economic and societal aspects of the process. International collaboration is a prominent feature of the project, which is supported by industrial companies and organisations from all over Europe.
