Microalgae production

Microalgae are the "grass" of aquatic environments, and they are being eaten by small animals. Microalgae contain interesting components which can be used in e.g. aquafeed, cosmetics or nutraceuticals. Microalgae may also be used for water remediation or to reuse resources from waste streams, in line with circular economy and resource remediation. Large scale production of microalgae, however, is under development, and SINTEF contributes to solve both biological and technological challenges before sustainable production can be established. The work is performed in collaboration with the newly established Norwegian centre for Plankton technology.
